Accountant

A firm in the heart of Lagos is looking for an Accountant.

Job summary:
Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.

Primary responsibilities:
1. Prepare profit and loss statements and monthly closing and cost accounting reports
2. Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions
3. Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
4. Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness
5. Prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices and other accounting documents
6. Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control
7. Resolve accounting discrepancies
8. Recommend, develop and maintain financial databases, computer software systems and manual filling systems
9. Supervise the input and handling of financial data and reports for the company’s automated financial systems
10. Reconciliation of bank accounts
11. Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits
12. Other duties as assigned

Additional responsibilities:
1. Develop the annual operating budget and consult with departmental management on the fiscal aspects of program planning, salary recommendations and other administrative actions
2. Provide accounting policy orientation for new staff

Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or any social sciences
2. Four to five years of accounting experience
3. ICAN (PE I/II) will be an added advantage
4. Knowledge on Peachtree accounting and excel.
